"Miranda Warning" (A Murder in the Mountains Novel) by Heather Day Gilbert

Set in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, Tess Spencer follows her instincts when her senses go on alert. A couple of mysterious notes written to Miranda, an elderly friend of Tess, have set her on edge. Could they be from a ghost of the past or random pranks? Journal entries of a long dead woman reveal secrets that lead to questions and possible danger.

Written with great detail, the setting and characters are captivating. I love the Spencer family and their close relationships. This family could represent any American family, skeletons in the closet and a rambunctious dog included.

Suspense is a strong point throughout this book. The journal entries that begin each chapter are an important and mysterious aspect. Numerous strange incidents occurred unexpectedly and raised the hair on the back of my neck! This is a difficult book to put down. There's a surprise at the turn of a page. I look forward to more from this author, and I highly recommend this series.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book through a contest sponsored by the author with no expectations for a review; however, I have chosen to give my honest opinion regarding this book.
