How to Use the Network- a Daily Digest to Help. 6-2-2010

My friend, Angie Breidenbach made a good suggestion yesterday and I want to try to implement it. She said:

"You know what would be cool? One little mini lesson a day on how to best use this group. But that would be a lot of work for you, Fred." (To quote Maynard G Krebs -"Work!!!")

Actually I am getting questions from people everyday who join and it occurs to me that many members may be wondering about the same things. Of course this is new and quite different from anything else out there I could find in doing our research and we want to keep it that way!

So here it is, thanks to Angie, a daily blog about why and how to use this site.

First this is not just another "online book club" nor is it just another "Social Network" and this is because of our focus:

Our Focus:

The Book Club Network's focus is on creating an environment where Book Club Leaders and Members can meet, get to know one another, to get ideas, share inspiration and use this site to better facilitate their reading groups.

We also invite and give access to Authors for the benefit of the clubs and other readers who join.

Really we welcome anyone who loves to read and wants to get to know authors and learn more about the books they are writing, why they write them, how they write.

Our hope is that people who want to start book clubs will learn from those who are running them now and we want to support those who need help in starting or running their current clubs.

We also envision that authors will have a place to connect with book clubs everywhere.

We welcome anyone who wants to start an online book club here and will support this as well. Although our main focus is the support of meetings where people meet face to face and develop relationships through reading.

Please send me questions about the network? I will be able to address them here in the blog daily.

Tomorrow I will discuss How To Customize Your Pages and How/ Why to set up a Group for the Book Club Leaders.

Also for those of you who do not know who Maynard G Krebs was, let me introduce him to you:

Thank you Fred! I look forward to tomorrow's post about how to customize your page. I am especially excited about having a place to meet the authors and connect them to their readers.

you said, "We also envision that authors will have a place to connect with book clubs everywhere."
Thank you, Fred. That's exactly what I'm hoping for. if you can blog on that I promise to take every word to heart. P.S. my A VERY PRIVATE GRAVE released yesterday in the UK and THE SHADOW OF REALITY released today on Kindle and Smashwords. I think I've had twins.

Roseanna, I haven't done this but here's an idea for you. Do you have any kind of bookstore in town? Usually bookstores (coffeeshops, too!) have a community board where people can post about groups, classes, events, etc. Why not make a flier saying you're looking for others who'd like to start an inspirational fiction book club and find some community boards to post it on?

I like Maynard :-) This poor actor gets the strangest names. Maynard, Gilligan...
Seriously, I am excited about this because though I belong to a few ning groups, I don't know how to best utilize them. I need to learn.
Thanks, Fred!

Roseanna started a discussion about her question here and I for one responded. Great question:
