I, the mom, really enjoyed this book. My eleven year old daughter and I read it.We enjoyed the discussion after as well. this book addresses friendship, kindness, and respect for adults. it also brings out character issues such as telling the truth, putting others first, and treating everyone kindly. i enjoyed being able to discuss these things about the book with my daughter. Below are her thoughts on the book. She took from the book the character values I hoped she would!
Written by my daughter who is eleven and a book lover!
" I liked Kate and Tori. I liked that Kate finally got a friend when she had to move. I enjoyed reading about the horses, and what it took to take care of them. I really like horses.
It was good that Kate felt bad if she did wrong things or said something she shouldnt have. Kate is so nice to her brother,Pete, who is autistic. She is good at understanding his emotions and stress. She was willing to take the time to lovingly explain things to him, like the fact that the horse was not hers.
I liked how friendship was in this book. It is what friends should be-loving. Neither one cared what their color was. They each cared about each other, and they both wanted what was best for the other person and not themselves.
I really liked the ending of this book! If a friend asked me if they should read it i would say yes, definitely. I received this book from the author for my honest opinion which I have given."
