Blowing on Dandelions by Miralee Ferrell - Review

Do dandelion wishes really come true?

Katherine Galloway knew this moment of calm wouldn’t last, blown away like the dandelion seeds she scattered as a girl. In 1880, three years after her husband’s death, she struggles to run an Oregon boardinghouse and raise two girls alone. Things don't get easier when her critical, domineering mother moves in. Katherine must make the situation work, but standing up for herself and her family while honoring her mother isn't easy. And with a daughter entering the teenage years, the pressure on Katherine becomes close to overwhelming. Then she crosses paths with Micah Jacobs, a widower who could reignite her heart, but she fears a relationship with him might send things over the edge. She must find the strength, wisdom, hope, and faith to remake her life, for everything is about to change.

About the Author:

Miralee loves life, family, writing, reading and riding her horse. Sailing with her husband and puttering in her garden are all ways she relaxes. She often has her little 6 lb Chihuahua, Lacey, on her lap when working--there's nothing like a warm ball of love on your lap to act as a stress reliever! First and foremost, though she is a child of God and daughter of the King. She's been involved in women's ministries for years, and serves on staff at their small church. She is married to a wonderful man, has two grown children, two cats, two dogs and an Arabian mare. She started writing shortly after turning 50, and discovered she loved it so much she didn't want to stop. She has six books out, with a seventh releasing this past June. She writes both women's contemporary fiction and historical romance.

What did I think?

Personally, this book was very appealing to me. It deals with real life issues!! It was not a fast paced drama, although there were a few intense happenings in the book, that kept you guessing for a few pages as to what might happen. But for me, my take was mostly that this book is about faith, character, community, and courage. It's about love, respect and family! I enjoyed it immensely. The part I most disliked was having to put it down to "do" life! (Life has been busy lately, so I did not get to read it as often and quickly as I like) There is was sooo much in this book I could relate to. Katherine, the main character, is a hard working business woman, who has lost her husband. She is a single parent raising a teen and doing her best to make her way and support her family. Her mother, who just recently lost her daughter, June, comes to visit. This woman is a bit overbearing, and has no trouble speaking her mind (usually in a not-so-considerate manner). The way Katherine deals with this issue is very impressive, and how she sets an example for her daughter, who is struggling with how her grandmother treats her mother. It's about God's love, loving the unlovely! The author deals with some deep issues, things many of us have experienced in some form or another. You just have to read the book! The author includes a sneak peek of book two in the series, and I can't wait!
