A Shining Light by Judith Miller takes place in the Amana colonies in Iowa in the late 1800's. Andrea Wilson and her son Lukas leave Baltimore for her grandfathers farm in Iowa after learning that her husband had died at sea. She takes what little money she has to get them there. One there, she discovers that her dad had sold the farm and passed away. She finds great help from the people of Amana. Can she make a life for her and Lukas? Will she have to depend on them for everything? Will she learn to trust that God is really in control? She will have to if she is to face all that lies ahead,

This was a wonderful story. The characters were so well written and one really feels as if they are taken back to that time and place. Lukas is a lovable character as well as so many others. I devoured this book, and I found it hard to put down. The best part of the book is that it isn't as predictable as one might think, and it holds no slow parts. It's fun to watch relationships grow and watch Andrea learn and grow inwardly. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

I received this book from the publisher for my honest opinion which I have given.
