Another wonderful tale of knights, castles, conflict, dungeons and war by Jody Hedlund. I wasn't sure at the beginning if I would enjoy these stories of this particular time period but this is the second one I've read and it's just as good as the first if not better. The year is in the 1390s and there are those that support the king and those that are opposed. Olivia is totally devoted to her father who is in the camp of opposing the king. She is constantly trying to win his affection and love. But she now has a much younger brother, and although sickly, he has taken her place in her father's affections. Olivia is head strong and not afraid to get in a sword duel with the best of them but in spite of this she is kidnapped by a knight of Lord Pitt's who will hold her for ransom to try and bring her father to his views. Sir Aldric has a hard time controlling Olivia but her loyalty to her younger sister, Isabelle has helped keep her in line somewhat.
Lord Pitt has his view's and Olivia's father has his, and they are willing to fight to the death to make their point or bring others in to fight for them. Will her father rescue her? Will she be made to live in a deep dark dungeon indefinitely? Where does her true allegiance lie?
The lessons Olivia learned in the end was well worth the time spent reading this novel. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. To me it's not just a book labeled for YA, but one any age can spend time with and enjoy.
I received a complimentary ebook copy but was not required to write a review.
