A Time to Stand by Robert Whitlow

I read this book in under two days. I had a hard time putting it down to eat, sleep and do other mundane things. It almost seemed to be ripped right from today's headlines. A white police officer shoots an unarmed black teenager. He feels justified because he heard a gun shot and thought the teenager was going to shoot him. A black female lawyer is brought in as part of the defense team and racial tensions escalate in this small Georgia town.

You're Gonna Love Me by Robin Lee Hatcher

This was a very enjoyable story for me. The grandmother Ruth was my favorite character. Maybe because I could relate to her more. She was spunky and spirited despite her injury that limited her mobility. I could sympathize with Samantha and her fear of dangerous situations after a skiing accident killed her father.
