Goodbye Noel - a review

The ‘crime fictionista’ strikes again! Goodbye Noel by Nike Chillemi starts with a bang and never lets up. This is the second in Chillemi’s ‘Sanctuary Point’ Series – mystery crime stories set in a small, post WW II American town.  This installment takes place right after Christmas when a young mother is found dead under her Christmas tree. Katrina Lenart, a maternity nurse who happens to stumble upon the scene, is given temporary custody of the orphaned infant while Inspector Ian…

The Wounded spirit

Frank Peretti tackles bullying and abuse head on in this book called THE WOUNDED SPIRIT. Much of the book is a personal account of the abuse he himself suffered as a child due to a physical disfigurement. He manages to weave lots of gripping narrative in with an expose of the gravity of this problem. He uses references to Columbine and other examples as the culminating outcome should this type of abuse continue to go unchecked. He also offers hope and practical solutions to the problem.…

Embracing Change

When I joined this network, I was still debating ereaders versus hardcopies. Now if the member poll reflects our habits, like the majority of the book club members, I buy most of my books online. Though I still enjoy the feel of a book in my hands, I love my Kindle. I have come full circle and was happy when my first published novel, Crown's Jewel was recently rereleased in Kindle edition.

There are some things we cannot stop, and technology is one of them. Whether you are an…

Megan Cleary's Christmas Part II

The sweet sound of Mother Harriet’s voice broke through her thoughts, “Ain’t Christmas wonderful?” she was saying. “When I was a child we always looked forward to Christmas. My father didn’t have no money and there wasn’t presents much, but my folks tried to get us each a little somethin’. Then after we was through with dinner we would sit, and Mama would read from the Bible.…

Walt Disney and How He Valued Work

The actor Dean Jones once described Walt Disney the following way, "He was very accessible, he seemed more like a tourist from Duluth than a studio head."

Walt always asked a lot from those around him. He expected everyone to work hard, give their best, and he demanded the same of himself. He rarely pulled rank on people when they were doing their jobs. The story is told…
