As a contemporary Christian novel for youth, SHOOT THE WOUNDED delivers the gospel with enough angst that it is sure to meet with the approval of today’s teen. It delves into relevant topics such as teen pregnancy and family violence, mixed with the usual boy-girl relationships and coming of age themes common to YA fiction. In this book we see that being a Christian isn’t easy, and it certainly doesn’t mean you are perfect. SHOOT THE WOUNDED is the first in a trilogy by Canadian author Lynn…Continue

Let me preface my review with a few things. I’m not a huge fan of chick lit and/or Christian inspirational romance, in either book or film. Also, I didn’t realize that this book was the third book in a series, so I was unaware of the history in the character development and plot. I imagine the book would be a better…Continue

“From the Library of A.W. Tozer: Selections from Writers Who Influenced His Spiritual Journey” by James Stuart Bell is what I deem to be one of the best devotional & homiletic resources apart from Scripture.
While it begins with a brief biography of Tozer, the rest of the book isn’t designed like most; it consists of…Continue

What an interesting book. I am somewhat skeptical of “Christian fiction”, but this one took me by surprise and I found myself unwilling to put the book down. If you think “Christian” books are supposed to drop Scripture references on every page and end with a character receiving salvation, you most likely would not consider Breath of Angel to be a “Christian” book. However, it…Continue

A week and a half ago, our daughter Bethany married the love of her life, Billy. They found a historic church for their day and my husband Mike performed a beautiful and moving ceremony.
The one challenge for the day was the weather. The wedding was scheduled for mid-morning. Bethy and Billy were having a simple reception at the church for friends and a private cookout at a state park for family in the afternoon. We live in Middle Tennessee and Bethany wanted moderate temperatures.…Continue

PROMISES by E.G. Lewis was certainly not what I was expecting, and in this case that is a good thing! Rather than a fluffy romance, I got a well written novel with substance. Sure, there was romance, but this book is so much more than that. It is the epic journey of a woman who rises above the trials of life to become the person she was meant to be all along. It starts when Mary Jane is just 15, on the eve of her mother’s funeral. From there it takes us through her struggles at…Continue
