On a Ring and a Prayer - Sandra Bricker (4.5-5 Stars)

Ms. Bricker’s latest novel, On a Ring and a Prayer, kicks off her new Jessie Stanton series.  Jessie Stanton arrives home to discover that her husband has vanished with just about everything, except the items in her closet and the diamond ring on her hand.  With the help of a surf-guy private investigator, Danny, and her best friend, Piper, Jessie manages to fit her mansion-sized life into a shoebox apartment.  To support herself, Jessie opens a store that makes her high-fashion…

Thoughts to ponder after reading "Until the Harvest" by Sarah Loudin Thomas

GENEALOGY, PRIVACY, AND THE RECENT PAST

It's 1976. Henry Phillips is "taking the semester off," which really means he's a stiff wind away from dropping out altogether. His father has just passed away. His grandpa died before he was born, but that doesn't matter to him much, not yet. He's feeling lost, looking for easy money and…

Love Dangerously by Suzanne D. Williams

Loved It!

Although I enjoy reading full novels, I also enjoy reading shorter stories. The problem with some short stories is that they end up feeling rushed and are not very enjoyable. Such is not the case with Love Dangerously. Suzanne D. Williams knows just how to write a novella. I was hooked right from the very first page, and it just got better and better as I kept reading. Love Dangerously has humor, romance, suspense, and even some surprises along the way. It's also a…

Review of THE AGE OF THE BATTLESHIP

The Age of the Battleship 1890-1922: Second Edition, revised and enlarged 2015

“The U.S. Navy had come a long way from the doldrums of 1881. It had risen in strength and efficiency to be placed on a par with the largest navy in the world. It had risen in spite of internal bungling and congressional bumbling; in spite of cyclic indifference and parochial blindness,” Brayton Harris writes at the end of his book, The Age of the Battleship: 1890-1922.

Review of MAGGIE BRIGHT

Maggie Bright: A Novel of Dunkirk

“She sank back, but what played across the blank white landscape was not a heroic Maggie bashing the waves, but a shatterer who snapped the picture of a terrified child, who now fell upon England’s army, who now fell upon the men she knew and loved,” Clare considers in Tracy Groot’s novel, Maggie Bright: A Novel of Dunkirk.

Review of BASH AND THE CHOCOLATE MILK COWS

“Shaving-creamed slippers, painted goats, space shuttles, Moowhyagains, a robber with a gun on the loose, and girl sweat. And it wasn’t even April Fool’s Day yet,” Beamer writes in Burton W. Cole’s book, Bash and the Chocolate Milk Cows.
