Paws for Love: A Novel for Dog Lovers by Dana Mentink

Paws for Love is one of the most delightful books I've read in a long while. Jellybean is a mischievous and strong willed little dog who overtakes the town of Albatross and all its residents. He is not quite the dog you'd imagine by his sweet name. Misty…

The Amish Princess (The Paradise Chronicles #2) by Patrick E. Craig

Patrick E. Craig is a favorite author of mine. His books are rich in history, detailed and well researched. The story of the Amish Princess is haunting. Apahtuhwe, the White Deer, is the daughter of Wingenund, great…

Pages of Ireland by Cindy Thomson

One of my biggest pet peeves when authors decide to use real people and events from history in their fictional tales is when they change the essence of who those people were so really they’re only using the “celebrity” and not the truth.

Then you have wonderful authors like Cindy Thomson who are able to use their talented imaginations to create an entire fictionally based story around history but stick to the truth of the time and…

Getting trashed by authors who wrote about Jesus

I run a blog, Artistic Bent, where I review books for both Christian and Secular Authors.

Most of the time  I like it because I get to discover all kinds of books and the people behind them. Admittedly I'm a little more biased towards those from the UK since my family is Irish but I make a real effort to read books from around the world because one of my favorite things is how different a mystery book for example can be when it's written by American author versus British or…

Scripture for Tuesday, February 21 (2/21)

The scripture for today, February 21, is Daniel 2:21 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

"He [God] changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning."

It seems there is always some amount of…

The Angels’ Share – James Markert (3.5-4 Stars)

James Markert’s latest release, The Angels’ Share, follows the story of William McFee and his family after the end of Prohibition.  Before alcohol became illegal, the family earned their livelihood from the Old Sam Bourbon distillery, under the management of William’s father, Barley.  However, the entire town of Twisted Tree faced a rapid decline without the distillery in operation.  The town buries its indigent residents in the potter’s field next to the distillery and one drifter’s…

Get young readers interested in history!

My interest in history began in grade school with an Ohio history notebook in fifth grade.

(It was embarrassing to see it in a recent clean-out of "old stuff").

Later trips to Indian Mounds and the Campus Martius Museum in Marietta, Ohio, fueled

my eagerness. Now I write historical fiction for young readers--an excellent path to grabbing

the interest of the young students of today.

Historical fiction takes readers on a journey back in time so they see,…

The Magic Number

I was requested again this year to write a romantic short story and read it as part of the program for my church's annual tea for ladies. Some of the women who missed the tea want to read the story, so I've copied it here:

The Magic Number

Dave scanned the message that appeared on his cell phone.
Hi, I’m Julia Barnett, a friend of Megan’s, and she asked me to invite you to a party in her honor. It will be at my home this…
