Review of THE SEAMSTRESS

The Seamstress

“Better to live by the instinct God gave you than to be fooled by tricks and manners,” Gagnon instructs Renee in Allison Pittman’s novel, The Seamstress.

The Forgiving Jar by Wanda Brunstetter

The Forgiving Jar is book two in the Prayer Jar series. Book one, The Hope Jar, is good to read first to fully know what has happened but this one could still be read as a stand-alone.

The main theme of course is forgiveness. Two of the main characters, Michelle and Sarah, both have issues from their pasts that need addressing. It eats at both of them, especially Sarah. She is hard-nosed against Michelle and holds tons of resentment towards her. It makes Sarah a very…

Ellie’s Redemption by Molly Jebber

Loved the first book about Liza and this is a continuation about Ellie, her stepdaughter. But it can be read as a stand-alone, so don’t let that hold you back. Ellie works in Liza’s bakery with Liza’s niece Hannah, who happens to be Ellie’s best friend. Ellie left the Amish life twice during her rumspringa, but now is totally committed to her faith. As hard as she tries, she is still looked down upon by many in the community. Fears are that she’ll win people and hearts and then take…

One Thing I Know by Kara Issac

I’ve read other books by this author and they were all good but this one is my favorite so far. It had a lot of emotion, deception, childhood issues and romance. The two main characters had more in common than they realized for a long time. Both had grown up with alcoholic fathers that put their families in turmoil. They both struggled with issues relating to their fathers and how it affected the way they lived their adult lives later on.

A big deception relating to the true author of…

The Curse of Misty Wayfair by Jaime Jo Wright

This is the third book I’ve read by Jaime Jo Wright and in my humble opinion, the best one yet, although they are all great reads!

This is a time slip novel that went back and forth from the early 1900s to present day but in the same small town.

I was held “captive” from the very first chapter right up to the end. Thea, from 1908, and Heidi, from present day were two very lost souls that had me sad because of their plights. Neither felt loved nor…

Where the Heart Takes You by Virginia Wise

I enjoy books on the early settling of America. This one was about the earliest Amish settlers that came for religious freedom. The second group of Amish came in 1737 to a beginning settlement in Pennsylvania. The hardships were not stressed as much as in other books I’ve read but still they were hit upon. That is what fascinates me and makes me want to learn more. It’s hard to realize they came with practically nothing and had to rely on the land as well as each other. Strong, hardworking…

The Amish Candymaker by Laura V. Hilton

Although I am not an author, I feel it’s safe to say that an author faces many challenges when  creating a story.  They write a quality story whose plot and characters engage and entertain the reader.  Yet, I often read reviews stating that although the book was enjoyable, the…

Murder at the Flamingo by Rachel McMillan

This was different from most books I read. I don’t love the 1930s, nightclubs and heavy alcohol drinkers. All of these things and more are found in this novel. It took me a while to get through the 337 pages because it wasn’t inspiring my interest or curiosity but I’m not a quitter. The murder was almost a side note to the whole plot. There seems to be some shady things going on with thugs carrying walking sticks, guns and attitudes. The bad guys always showed up when you least expected…
