The Restoration by Wanda Brunstetter

This is book three in the Prairie State Friends series. It can be read as a standalone but the other two books are very much worth reading as well. The lives of these characters continue in this community as new ones are added and circumstances change among them all. The life of Priscilla takes center stage as she struggles with her feelings toward Elam, her long time beau, and David, a newcomer to the community that takes a shine to Priscilla, even though he's English. Out of My Comfort Zone

I've come to realize (if you listen to my family) that writing is my vice. After all, I don't over indulge in drinking. I don't smoke. I used to shop too much until I started writing. Now, I hardly come out of my writing lair, and then only to get coffee and if really necessary, food beyond chocolate. Ergo - vice.  To read more,…

Amish Promises by Leslie Gould

I took a trip to Lancaster County, PA, through the book Amish Promises. I got to know Shani Beck, a nurse, who moved with her family to her grandfather's old farm, her husband Joel, an Iraqi war vet, with an injured leg and PTSD, and their twelve year old son Zane. Next door are their Amish neighbors, the Lehman's. Tim has lost his wife to cancer and his sister is living with him and his five children, helping take care of them. Tim is very stern and gruff, having been raised that way by his… Continue

The Forgotten Recipe by Amy Clipston

This story was so wonderfully written that I felt a connection to all the characters right from the start. Love, forgiveness, tragedy, grief and even a little humor were all were written into the words of this novel. I kept pulling for Jason in his heartfelt attempt to get Veronica to notice him and care about him but at the same time I was angered at him for not being forthcoming with her right from the beginning. I could just feel the hurt and rejection that was bound to come further into the… Continue
