REVIEW OF ENGAGED: SURRENDERING THE FUTURE by JULIE ARDUINI

Engaged: Surrendering the Future is a sweet romance, set in the beautiful Adirondack country of New York State. This is the third in Julie Arduini’s Surrendering Time Series. Although this novel can be read as a stand-alone, the other two books introduce readers to key characters who play a major role in this story.Trish Maxwell returns to Speculator Falls, but she left some bitter feelings and hurting hearts in the small town when she departed for what she thought would be greener pastures in…See More

REVIEW OF LIONESS: MAHLAH'S JOURNEY by BARBARA BRITTON

Lioness: Mahlah’s Journey gives credence to one of the little known stories of the Bible in a realistic and inspiring manner. The average reader would easily skip over the passages of scripture upon which author Barbara Britton bases her novel. The daughters of Zelophehad, first mentioned in Numbers in the Bible, are five orphaned sisters. The oldest, Mahlah, must stand up against a male-dominated society to claim her family’s right to property in the Promised Land. The author skillfully…See More

REVIEW OF THE KIDNAPPING OF CODY MOSS by SARA FOUST

The Kidnapping of Cody Moss is another engaging novel by author Sara Foust. The suspense and tension she packs into this story kept me up reading late into the night. As Police Officer Annalise Baker races against time to find a young teen who has been kidnapped, the emotional stakes rise for her and the victim’s mother. The challenge she is facing professionally and the personal turmoil she is hurled into by her unappreciative husband adds dimension to her character and tests her faith. Her…See More

REVIEW OF WHEN VALLEYS BLOOM AGAIN by PAT JEANNE DAVIS

This is a riveting World War II story that takes the reader back in time to a historic and horrific era. Abby Stapleton leaves her home in London to reside in the United States at the insistence of her father, who sees the dangers of impending war in Europe. She falls in love with Jim, an employee on her aunt and uncle’s estate, who is drafted into the U.S. Army and is sent to the battlefront. While Jim faces the peril of possible death, Abby is threatened with the loss of everything dear to…See More

REVIEW OF JESSIE'S HOPE by JENNIFER HALLMARK

Jessie’s Hope, as the title implies, is a story of hope, but it goes far deeper than that. The main character, Jessie Smith, has been paralyzed from a young age in an auto accident which also took her mom’s life. Jessie dreams of the perfect wedding to her fiancé, Matt Jansen. Jessie’s desire to connect with her alcoholic father, who abandoned her after the accident, leads to bitterness, disappointment, and the revelation of secrets long buried. The story delivers a strong message of family love…See More

REVIEW OF TRIAL BY PATIENCE BY TABITHA BOULDIN

This story takes place mainly on a therapeutic ranch for abused children, Break Away Acres, owned and operated by Danny Solomon. Danny has a history of severe abuse himself, which allows him to be highly sensitive to the feelings of others who have similar backgrounds. When Phoenix Nichols takes a job as a trail guide, Danny immediately perceives the depth of her troubled past. The slow pace adds to the intensity of pain and emotional damage the characters struggle to overcome. The author paints…See More

REVIEW OF BUTTERFLY DREAMS BY BONNIE ENGSTROM

Butterfly Dreams by Bonnie Engstrom is a delightful and refreshing romance between two people who find love later in life. Told in first person by main character Betsy, the story brings out the joys and pitfalls of taking a new relationship along on the journey to our senior years.Love interest Noel can be the most charming, and yet the most frustrating man to ever catch Betsy’s eye, who was really not even looking in the first place.I especially enjoyed the relationship between Betsy and her…See More

Review of The Pruning by Jan Cline

The Pruning by Jan Cline tells the story of the Wilding family, who leave heartache and despair behind in dust bowl Kansas for the promise of a new life in the Pacific Northwest. This book held my attention from the very first scene. Clarissa, wife to Frank and mother of two boys, runs smack dab into her past the moment the family steps off the train in their new location. The author does a wonderful job of developing characterization, taking us to the heart of the conflicting emotions of her…See More
