About Me and My Books: Lisa Wingate

I write mainstream fiction for both Penguin Putnam and Bethany House. My first book, Tending Roses came out in 2001, followed by Good Hope Road, The Language of Sycamores, Drenched in Light, A Thousand Voices, Texas Cooking, Lone Star Cafe, and Over the Moon at the Big Lizard Diner popular, lighthearted small town Texas stories are out of print now and I'm working on e-book versions of those.  A Month of Summer, Summer Kitchen, Beyond Summer and Dandelion Summer set in a transitioning Dallas neighborhood make up the Blue Sky Hills series from Penguin Putnam. Talk of the Town, Word Gets Around and Never Say Never (Bethany House) complete the Daily, Texas series.

The last Daily, Texas book, Never Say Never (Bethany House) garnered the American Christian Fiction Writers Carol Award last year. Beyond Summer was a nominee in a different category for that award also.

The most recent Blue Sky Hill book, Dandelion Summer (Penguin Putnam) was a nominee for Oklahoma Book Awards,  Fiction category.

Larkspur Cove is on the short list of 3 for a Christy Award. It is the first book in the Moses Lake series (Bethany House). Blue Moon Bay the second in this series has received some attention for it's outstanding cover design and we'll see how it does in contests this year.  Firefly Island, is slated for a February 2013 release and a Name a Character or Store contest is underway. You can learn more about that on my website

I love hearing from book clubs who are doing a club read of one of my books. I post club activities on my website for discussion meetings and I join, by phone, in the discussion if we can agree on a time and date.

Speaking appearances are getting to be more and more a major part of my life as my children get older and I can be away more. I've enjoyed speaking at writers conferences, teacher organizations, library conferences, and many other venues. I'm also appearing now and then at bookstores as I travel. I love to meet readers and other writers in my travels. More information is available on the Appearances page of my website.

E newsletters announce each new release and, occasionally, breaking news such as free ebook offers for some of my titles, contests, etc. There is a sign up on my website.

You are invited to join me and my four author pals on I'm the Monday Belle and you'll share in all things southern as we discuss the topic of the week.  Southern saying, values, recipes, books... many topics, frequent giveaway drawings and southern fellowship.  Y'all come!

Blessings & Happy Reading!

At midnight, Bethany House has scheduled Talk of the Town as a free e-book download. The other two books in this series will be at reduced prices so you can get the whole series for under $10 -- Word Gets Around and Carol Winner Never Say Never. Please share with friends & club members. I'm getting many readers who want more books in this series. Let me know what you think about that idea!

Three sisters who live apart and have a book club called Binding Through Books will be characters in my upcoming Firefly Island novel. (February, 2013, Bethany House). How fabulous to have a book club in our little town of Moses Lake, TX. I'm so excited that they were drawn. The sisters read and discuss books, (including some of mine, yippee!) over the phone!  They have even designed their own bookmark, so crafty. How's this for a fabulous Book Club idea? I'm so excited that this entry was…

Hi Lisa,

I love knowing that one of my favorite authors lives "just down the road."  I enjoy your books tremendously.  I especially appreciate the way you blend humor, plot, and a christian message in your books.  I just ordered Tending Roses, Good Hope Road, and Drenched in Light and can't wait to read them.  Proud to have you as an "almost neighbor."
