ABOUT THE BOOK (176 pages):

Lavish Grace is a unique, nine-week study of Paul’s experiences with and teachings about grace. Filled with contemporary examples of grace at work, this well-written format gives you the rare opportunity to combine a character and topical study into one rich, practical approach to Scripture. Lavish Grace will help you recognize how God’s grace is being poured out on you and through you. It will give you reason to rejoice in the grace that is available to you every day. As part of the Bible Studies for Women series, this study looks specifically at God’s grace: • Poured Out on us in salvation and for our continued spiritual transformation;
• Poured Through us as we become channels of God’s grace to others in practical ways;
• Overflowing in the inevitable difficult seasons where we need to rest in and rely on Him.

Kathy Howard calls herself a "confused southerner." Raised in Louisiana, she has moved with her engineer husband around the U.S. and Canada. She says "pop" instead of "Coke" and "you guys" as often as "ya'll." But those things are just superficial - she's still a southern girl at heart! Kathy has been teaching the Bible for over 25 years to a varied audience - everyone from middle school students to teen moms to church leaders. She has a Masters in Christian Education from the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary. Kathy served on a church staff in Midland, Texas for the last five years until her family's recent move to the Houston area.

Kathy and her husband have three children, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and four precious grandsons. When the family gets together there are also five dogs in the mix. Kathy writes to have something to do while she drinks coffee and eats chocolate. Hi all! Thank you for being part of this review group for "Lavish Grace." I pray that you will be encouraged during the process. God is using what I learned about grace while writing this book to strengthen me right now during a difficult season.

Christians love the idea of grace. We talk about it and sing about it, yet it remains an abstract concept for many. My goal for this study is to help Christians walk in God's grace in practical ways. I'd love for us to talk about this a bit. How can we experience God's grace in our lives during times of difficulty and trials? And how can we live as people of grace, extending it to others in word and deed?

Thank you again for your time! Kathy
If only I could fully accept the grace that got gives me, I could be free from so many things. How many of us have whispered those words allowed? With this book, I have had the privilege to not only study about grace but to be taken into a deeper understanding of grace. I love the way this book is set up. It is easy to read and really has helped me.

The book is a nine week study where we follow Paul as he experiences and teaches on grace. I sat down in my quiet place and began a journey that has not been completed yet. I wanted to rush through it, but I knew I would miss what God wanted me to absorb. It is funny how I have always thought, why does that person always seem to get a pass on things they are doing wrong? Ok so I found myself being judgmental and oh so jealous of others. I can have that same grace if only I would open my heart to receive it. I love the depth the study goes into and especially like the activities at the end of each chapter .

Oh how I loved this passage in the book, "The Heavenly Father draws us to the Cross of Christ because there-and only there-can His grace be applied. " To be at the foot of the cross and experience the true grace poured upon me is something I desire and want to fully understand. Can you see The Heavenly Father as He reaches down to say, " My child I have loved you always. Your sins are forgiven and my grace surrounds you? Yes that's the kind of relationship I want to have with God. The authors illustrations throughout the book are very eye opening and really gives readers a clearer understanding of how much He loves us.

I continue to grow spiritually everyday and this study has really helped me in my walk. I have always thought of myself as unloved and not worthy of His grace and mercy. I can see now how my thinking has held me back from so many opportunities to share his word. I have received His grace many times, but didn't really acknowledge it. How many times have we had the chance to give grave to someone, but instead was to prideful? In our everyday walk, we encounter people who may not drive fast enough for us, are slow to move down an aisle at the grocery store or talk so much you want to pull your hair out. Wouldn't it be nice if we took the time to say hi to that person who walked slower than we did? What if we sat and listened to that person and gave our undivided attention to them?"

I'm thankful that I was able to read this very powerful book. It has opened my eyes to areas in my life I need to work on. I will continue my journey with this book knowing that His grace is enough.

"Our Gracious God never wastes a trial He permits to enter our lives. If we cooperate, He will use every difficulty , heartache , and hardship for our good and His glory."

Lavish Grace is a Bible Study for women birthed from the author’s life experience that showed her self-dependency was nothing and how much she needed God’s grace to even draw her next breath.  Kathy Howard takes women into the subject of grace drawn from Paul’s various letters.  She shares how not only Paul was affected, but others as well along with current experiences of people who come in contact with God’s grace.

Then, the author helps the women studying to look into their own lives and hearts to see how God wants to make Himself and His grace more real in their lives.  Each study begins with a short introduction via a story followed by a section called “Learning It” where we then delve into the Word of God.  Afterward, students then interact with a section called “Teaching It”, which delves even deeper into the bible passages mixed with author’s own personal learning experiences.  Next comes a section titled “Living It” where the author is so transparent in sharing her life learning experiences along with application questions.  The lesson then ends with “Grace Applied” where we read how others learned to draw upon the grace of God or are learning as well.  Following this are a few questions that help students take what God has shown them through the study and live it out from that moment on.

I found this to be a deeper study than I first thought and I find that very refreshing.  It isn’t a quick in and out type of study, but one that encourages followers of Christ to dwell in the Word, be transformed by the Word in order to be living examples of the Word.  Whether done for personal study or in a small group, I believe that many women will be encouraged and renewed to live for Christ.  Personally, I look forward to other studies such as this from either this author or others in the coming days!

I have read Lavish Grace by Kathy Howard.  What a wonderful book.  I love how it’s broken into different sections, I love that she uses real life examples to help illustrate the truths that she is sharing and I love the interaction that can happen when done in a group setting but also how it’s just as easy to complete this Bible study individually.  Grace - a word that is used freely in our society but I wonder if it’s really understood?  I know that I need lots more exposure and study of this word/concept before I will truly grasp what it all entails.

I highly recommend this book to whoever wants to learn more about grace - whether in a Bible study setting or by yourself.

Lavish Grace by Kathy Howard is a great devotional.  She intermixes all the wonderful elements that a devotional has - delving into the Scriptures, questions to ponder and dig deeper and personal illustrations to help cement the teachings.  I learned a lot more about a topic that is complex, yet the basis of our foundation in Christ.  I highly recommend this book to people who want to learn more Biblical truths about the very crux of Christianity.

This is a great devotional, but also a great group study.  So gather some of your best girl friends and study the topic of grace.  This is a difficult to understand concept.  But the author takes us through scripture and personal stories to help us understand why we need grace and why we need to extend it.  Better yet, ask some friends that you need to extend grace to join you in this study.  I'm sure God will show up in miraculous ways.

“Lavish Grace” by Kathy Howard is a wonderful 9 week devotional.  Each devotional is separated by four sections: Learning It, Teaching It, Living It, and Grace Applied.  Each devotion could be done all in one day, or it can be split into four different days.

These devotions focus on God’s grace.  These devotions are well laid out.  They show and remind us with practical applications of God’s grace.

I would definitely recommend this devotion.

Lavish Grace by Kathy Howard is an interesting book.  It is designed to be an interactive nine-week bible study, but I think that it could also devotional of sorts too.  The book is divided into three sections: “Grace Poured Out”, “Grace Poured Through” and “Grace Overflowing”.  Each section is then divided into three week studies and each week into four sections.

To me, the section one, week one – Grace Note sets the tone of the entire book… “God woos us to Himself with whispers of grace.”  The words written between the covers of this book will soothe your soul as you study Paul’s life and teaching on grace… to help you to discover the abundance of God’s grace for your own life.

Do not hold yourself to the nine weeks, take all the time that you need on each section, of each week to really allow God’s grace to pour itself into and over you.

Book Review: Lavish Grace by Kathy Howard

Subtitle: Poured Out, Poured Through, and Overflowing.

Kathy Howard has piqued my interest in grace. Several years ago, I chose that word for my ‘word of the year’, a word to study and to focus on. Since I did this Bible study, I will be more aware of the grace of God in my surroundings and in my life.

Mrs. Howard gives her readers an extensive study to learn about lavish grace. Her Bible study consists of nine-weekly lessons, with four sections per lesson. These nine lessons fall into three sections-Graces Poured Out, Grace Poured Through, and Grace Overflowing. She combines scripture passages with stories illustrating grace in each of these nine weekly studies. At the beginning of each lesson, she includes a ‘Grace Note’, giving us reminders of how grace can work in our lives.

I look forward to doing more of Mrs. Howard’s Bible studies. I recommend this study to any woman who wants to learn of God’s grace in the life of Paul and in our lives today.

I have always struggled with really grasping the concept of grace. I mean, I’ve had a basic idea but this book really opened my eyes to grace and how God has lavished His grace on me for many years. Years before I ever asked Him to come into my life.
With this study you will see grace through the eyes of Paul and how God was working in His life long before He ever struck him blind.
This is a nine-week study that will walk you through these many forms that grace can take. You can work your way through the week anyway you wish. You could do it all in one sitting or break it up (which is what I did). You could also do this study with other ladies or on your own, either way I think you will gain a deeper understanding of how God has shown His grace to you.
If you are looking for a new Bible study this might be the one for you.

Lavish Grace by Kathy Howard is a great Bible study book. It is broken down into sections and weeks so I didn't feel overwhelmed to hurry through it. It allowed me to work slowly and absorb the information. Each week there are great Bible examples, real life examples and ways to apply the information. Great book on grace!

Review Title: Understand the Gift of Grace (review of Lavish Grace by Kathy Howard)

Reviewer: Janice S. Garey

***** 5 Stars posted on Amazon, Goodreads, Christianbook.com, Deepershopping, Facebook, Twitter, and my personal blog.

Every believer receives grace from God, "Pored Out, Poured Through, and Overflowing," as the subtitle of this book indicates. Yet few have an in depth understanding of what grace encompasses. Kathy Howard brings the subject into focus as with a magnifying glass to examine what it means to live out grace from the receiving to the giving. The book makes the reader dig for their own answers to relevant questions about the topic. The Bible is the source book for answers and enlightenment. Kathy Howard asks the right questions to prompt diligent research to learn not only what she teaches, but also to discover how the Bible passages apply on an individual and personal level. The reader begins with a general knowledge of grace, but it gets refined as quickly as the reader moves through the book. It is designed for nine weeks, but can be done at another pace according to needs. The book works well for individuals or small groups. A leader's guide, at the back of the book, helps those who wish to go that route. These days when so many people act rudely at the slightest offense, either real or imagined, a Christian who chooses to give grace stands out. This book will make you consider choosing to give grace because God gave it to you for your true offenses. By promoting more grace to be shown to needy individuals in the world, this book could potentially become a trend setter in making the world a better place to connect with people. It should be helpful to those who want to reach out and live missionally within their own communities. This book was provided free of cost from bookfun.org, the author, and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All Christians, of all ages, will benefit from reading, studying, and acting on the material in this book. It is a disciple building tool.
