I would love to go in a mission trip!. What a privilege it would be to share the love of Christ with others.
As a kid in a pastor's family and later as a pastor's wife, we often had missionaries in our home and as a youngster thought I would like to be a missionary. One church we attended had a sign as you left the parking lot, "You are entering the mission field". A good reminder that as believers we are missionaries where we live and work. I have been on 4 mission trips (an orphanage in Arkansas, Romania twice, and the Dominican Republic) and am heading to El Salvador on Saturday for a fifth trip. I've done a variety of things from helping to fit people with the correct reading glasses, watching preschoolers and holding orphan babies, cooking meals, to scrubbing carpets and moldy refrigerators. It has been a privilege and a blessing to be able to go with these teams to help serve alongside the missionaries in the different countries.
I was a pastor's kid too, Anne. One more thing we have in common! :)
Thanks for sharing your experiences with us Anne!
I have been to Utah and Mexico as a high schooler. Loved going on missions trips and love that my children now get to as well. They are impacting and definitely inspire spiritual growth when done intentionally. :)
Thank you for this chance to enter.
Fun, I'm so glad you had those experiences. Thanks for sharing!
I've never been on a mission trip but have read about many and prayed for others who went. haketm@msn.com
I think the missionary experience that rocked my world was that of Jim and Elizabeth Elliott. Their story was made into a novel called The End of the Spear by Steve Saint (pilots son) and then later made into a movie. I met Elizabeth Elliott and hear her speak about her experience and how after all that went down on the beach that fateful day where her husband and several other missionary men were killed she and her daughter lived among the tribe that did the killing. https://www.amazon.com/End-Spear-Steve-Saint-ebook/dp/B00DW9NCSS/re...
The pilot's son wrote a book sharing his experiences and how the Lord had him also work with the man that killed his father. That story was mind blowing. His book Walking His Trail: Signs of God https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1414313764/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl...
Listen to his story in this powerful video <iframe width="475" height="267" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3vcv9vjNO8w" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
My church is actually in the middle of it's annual missions conference. Every year wer get to spend time with missionaries. They are some of the best people on the planet!
I grew up in a pastors' home. My parents had wanted to be missionaries but my mother couldn't pass the medical testing so their interest towards missions was high. We knew many missionaries, prayed for them, had them in our home and had them speak at our church. As an adult I have friends that are missionaries both short term and long term. Their stories are so inspiring and unique. I receive the monthly letters from the missionaries of our church and hear them when they are home. Our church has mission conferences once a year.
My husband has been on several mission trips. One to Africa, one to Ecuador, and another to central California to migrant workers. His experiences have been rich and fulfilling.
I enjoy reading missionary autobiographies and have been reading them since I was a young girl.
Oh, Wow, Sharon, Thanks for sharing your story!
We can learn so much from each other!
We are posting videos here in the this group to help all of our members figure out how to use this site :-)
