War Forces a Choice Between Love and Country

A trip home from England to Maryland in 1812 finds Emeline Baratt a captive on a British warship and forced to declare her allegiance between the British and Americans. Remaining somewhat politically neutral on a ship where her nursing skills are desperately needed is fairly easy—until she starts to have feelings for the first lieutenant who becomes her protector. However, when the captain sends her and Lieutenant Owen Masters on land to spy, she must choose between her love for him or her love for her country.

2: I don’t know very much about the Mayflower voyage, but what I know is that the Puritans made the voyage because they wanted to escape the religious oppression from the British church, they wanted to keep their beliefs.

I love the cover!  The gown the model is wearing is beautiful.

4. I have had both good and bad about different authors of one series. I tend to not care for it.

I like books like this with different authors. It amazes me how the authors will coordinate aspects of the stories.

What always has amazed/surprised me about the people who made the voyage was their strength and resiliance to endure all that they did for their personal convictions and religious freedom.  Love to read stories about their experiences.

What a pretty cover for this book!

I don't remember reading a series that has been written by several different authors.  I would be interested in reading this series.

What surprised you about the whole Mayflower voyage?

Reading many sources and do knitting for the Plimoth Planation where the Mayflower landed a few things: the people under the decks that didn't survive and what happened to them when they did land.  Liked hearing how others helped others to survive the long voyage.

Thanks for the chance,

4. I have read series with different authors and really enjoyed it. But There has also been a series or two that the authors style was just too different and made the books seem disjointed.d

#2. I don't really know much about the Mayflower other than the basic information taught in school. People left England because of religious persecution. Half of them died after the first winter in the new world. We celebrate Thanksgiving because they shared food with the natives. I think William Bradford was the leader, and Nathaniel Hawthorn's book The Scarlet Letter was based on the Pilgrim society.

#4 I really like it when authors collaborate on a series as it gives me a chance to find new authors that I may not of heard of before. However sometimes the authors writing styles don't always work together and so can make the series a bit disjointed. But when they do work well together makes for an awesome series.

I love the dress, her curls, and the fan.  Such a pretty combination.  It looks like a mystery.

Thanks for the chance to win.

#4. It’s been very interesting to have different authors address different time periods, each with their own unique style. I was a little under-impressed with the first book about the Mayflower, but each book has gotten better.
