Felicity Daniels and her father left their home in Missouri to pursue a life in the Oregon Territory. Their hopes are dashed when, just one third of the way into the journey, her father dies from cholera. Felicity is determined to continue on to Oregon to fulfill her father's dream of 640 acres of prime land. Her only problem is a woman alone can't claim land. Since she has to be married and in a matter of days, she puts a sign in the front window of Ft. Laramie's only general store advertising for a groom. When she is swamped with offers, and none of them are coming from the one man she WANTS to apply, she begins to think she'll have to accept second best. Then, Ben Bonneville, the man she's had her eye on, offers to fill her need for a husband.
Ben is destitute following a robbery that took everything he'd saved. He has his sights set on the gold fields of California, not the fertile fields of Oregon. Can he honor his vow to Felicity when paying off his mother's medical debts is what started him on his quest in the firsts place?
Making her choice, Felicity has only one stipulation - the marriage will be in name only. As the two of them travel together, each gaining respect for the other, can their hearts be far behind?
This is a novella and as such is short and sweet. It was definitely worth the read!
