I'm enjoying all the "My Heart Belongs" books so far. With each one featuring a different state I've got lots of good reading to look forward to. This was my first book by Andrea Boeshaar and I must say that I was impressed. Anyone that can write a character like Everett and make him so despicable, so nasty that I immediately took a disliking to him knows how to write! He grated on my nerves throughout the book. But balancing him out in a nice way are the other wonderful characters like Mac, Lily, her brothers and her aunt. And not to forget lovable Blake, who was a great addition to the character lineup. I loved the way the initial meeting between Mac and Lily was portrayed and eluded to throughout the book. Although the time period was 1816 in Virginia, the richness of the surroundings was apparently due to the estate the father left Lily and his family. I'm not too sure that Everett didn't fudge a little on what his former friend gave him control of because the will was initially "lost". He took great advantage over control of not only their finances but over the welfare of the family.
This novel contained some adventure, hardships, and also romance. There was humor interjected as well that I enjoyed. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five was because the ending was kind of rushed to me. The climax I was looking forward to at the end was more talked about than actually shown. This was a small disappointment in an overall great read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
