ABOUT AUTHOR: Mary Ellis grew up close to an Amish settlement where she loved their peaceful agrarian lifestyle and strong sense of Christian community. She and her husband live by the largest population of Amish in the country where they take weekend trips to research her books. Mary enjoys reading, traveling, gardening, bicycling and swimming. Before “retiring” to write full-time, Mary taught Middle School and worked as a sales rep for Hershey Chocolate—a job with amazingly sweet fringe benefits. All three in her Miller Family series made the Christian bestseller lists. A Widow’s Hope was a finalist in the 2010 ACFW Carol Awards and received the Award of Merit for the Holt Medallion. Her current release is An Amish Family Reunion. Mary can be found on the web at:

AN AMISH FAMILY REUNION

By MARY ELLIS

Publication Date: February 1, 2012

During a rumschpringe visit to Niagara Falls, Phoebe Miller meets Eli Riehl, a young man who charms her—and everyone else—with his exceptional storytelling ability. When Phoebe sketches scenes to illustrate one of his tales, Eli encourages her incredible talent, and together they embark on a lofty and unlikely business venture for two young Amish people—writing and illustrating a children’s book.

Eli’s kindness and appeal extend beyond his knack for words to reach inside Phoebe’s heart. But he is an only son with five sisters, and when his father suffers a heart attack, Eli gives up his writing to assume responsibility on the farm. Though willing to abandon his dream of becoming an author, he won’t give up his beloved Phoebe.

Can their love for a good story develop into something that lasts forever, or will Phoebe’s deep-seated fear of desertion stand in their way?

You know... I have never been to a family reunion! I've been invited, but could never afford to go. :(

hopefully, one can be held closer to home so it won't be so expensive to attend.

My family is from Italy. We had one family reunion I remember and it was meeting relatives from Italy in New Jersey. We lived in NJ. It was expensive for them. It was kind of wild to because we didn't speak Italian and they didn't speak English. I was small at the time and remembered trying to talk with the kids. We just ended up coloring or something. It was fun to watch my parents trying to talk with the older relatives.  Talk about a strange family reunion. We needed more people to interpret. LOL!

Our family has never had a family reunion. I wish we could have one but there is always too much strife going on. I don't get involved in all of that, it just makes me sad.

sometimes reunions need to start small and grow from there, such as everyone bring their lunch to a central park location.

Good idea Mary!!

Many years ago our family reunion was held at the home of one of my Aunt's and they had a swimming pool.  Everyone that wanted to go swimming was having a great time.  My Mom who was afraid of water wasn't swimming.  My cousin's husband thought he would have fun and pushed my Mom into the pool.  The force of hitting the water knocked her glasses off.  Here is the strange thing.  Her glasses were never found.  To this very day I am still wondering what happened to Mom's glasses.  Needless to say, she was very upset!

I love Mary's Amish fiction books and have read every one of them except An Amish Family Reunion.  I am a huge fan of Mary's and would be delighted to win a copy.

Blessings!

Judy

unfortunately, that sound like something one of my cousins would do...at least when we were all younger. I can't believe the glasses were never found. truth is always stranger than fiction...thanks for your kind words about my books.

LOL! You're right about Truth being stranger than fiction!! Grin!

I haven't been to a family reunion in over 25 years, but I do remember the time when the watermelons were lost when an uncle drove off and forgot to raise the tailgate; an impromptu softball game was initiated where you literally "stole" bases; and one time there was the smoke-off between grills--my dad won by having the biggest cloud of smoke. Plus, the reunions were usually unplanned. Everyone just showed up on a weekend.

those are the best kind. our family usually brings picnic hampers to the community park, central to where most of us live. if they don't get too complicated they usually work out best! loved the part of your story about the watermellons. mind if I use that in a book someday???
