I am too, Deborah. It's different in the wee hours of the morning than when some are waking. There's a different feel to it for some reason. I write best after the rest of the world goes to bed :)

Thank you, Pamela, for your lovely note. I've hired some folks and other times conscripted family ;) But we're nearing the end of the "stuff" saga as we finish cleaning out my dad's house this week. It's been a long, long journey.

Appreciatively,

Angie

I'm a habitual owl - I'm usually up until at least 2 a.m. and have been known to stay up all night on occasion. Seems I'm at my most creative when the house is quiet and everyone else is in bed.

Angela,

My deepest sympathy to you on the loss of your dad. I know how stressful life is during sad times like this. My dad's health has been failing all year and we are told it is a matter of time, as there is nothing more that doctors can do.

I've taken care of many loved ones who have been terminally ill, and have also been responsible for settling several estates. It's not easy and it does seem that your own life is on hold.  Until one goes through the circumstances you are facing, there really is not a true understanding of all that is involved. All I can say is faith and prayer will get you through.

Hiring someone to help is a good idea. I did that and it eased much of my stress.  It's so hard to let go of a loved one's things, so I went through things and decided which meant the most to me and kept them. When you are very close to the one who has passed, it is a daunting task to face life without them. Life is never really the same, but I have never had regrets about anything I have done to take care of loved ones. You are correct to feel that it is the "right thing" to do.

Another thing to prepare for, emotionally, is that all of the things going on in your life at the moment are a distraction from grieving completely. I found that after all of the estate business ended, the reality of the loss really hit hard.  The first year is especially hard...anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, are times when I felt very sad. Something I was not prepared for after losing loved ones was my own birthday. That was very difficult, as I did not have the family member there with me. I did not expect that day to be so difficult, but for me, it was.

Again, you have my sympathy and understanding. You will remain in my thoughts and prayers. Please let me know if I can be of any help to you, just by listening and understanding. It is important to be able to talk about feelings and really does help to know that others share your experiences.

God Bless!

Pam

Well it's been a while since we had a discussion going on over here. I've been traveling a lot since March. Holy cow! Then as many of you know from prayer loops and facebook, my dad died. Here's the odd thing. I'm going to be living in both Las Vegas and Montana for the next several months. I'll be going back and forth as needed until the estate is finalized. Lots to do. I'd love to hear from anyone how you managed your own life and business while managing an estate and/or death of a loved one. It does feel like my life is on hold. But it also feels important, like it's supposed to be this way. The oddest things are my eating and sleeping schedule are just completely off. And honestly, I miss being home when I'm in Vegas and I get frustrated when I'm home about all the things I need to get done still. Whew. Working on what this new reality looks like without Dad while trying to solve all the problems of an overly full house that needs massive cleaning. Seriously considering hiring someone to help. Seriously wondering if I'll be able to write or record my radio show any time soon.

So glad you're enjoying your trip, Angela! Wish I was in San Antonio, but I'm up here in PA. Getting ready to go to work soon. Have a good day!

Hi Ramilya :)

That's exactly what I like to do too :) I'm rooming with another author here at the RWA conference and we just finished a cup of tea each before getting ready to sleep. Somehow, all is better with a cup of late night tea and a book :) But tonight I read a lot on the plane for books I'm judging for various contests so I could meet their deadlines. It's been a lovely trip :)

Hi Ramilya! I'm new to Night Owls, too. I agree with you that it is peaceful late at night. It's my favorite time and I can really focus on reading without the distractions which happen during the day. I also like to read with a cup of tea at hand (hot or iced, I don't care which). My cat shares my reading time with me, curled up on my lap. That's heaven on earth for me! Welcome!

Hi Night Owls,

Man I've missed you all :D It's been quite the crazy life lately. So are any of you in San Antonio? I'm coming in about midnight tomorrow night for the Romance Writers of America conference down at the Marriott Riverwalk area.

There's a really huge author signing on Wednesday:

The 2014 "Readers for Life" Literacy Autographing will be on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter Hotel in the 3rd floor ballroom.

I thought you'd like to know and maybe I could meet you in person :D

Angie
