The Greater Power

Posted by Denise Roberts on February 8, 2016 at 9:30am 0 Comments

The beginning of Exodus gives us a quick recount of how the family of Jacob (renamed Israel) came to live in the Goshen area of Egypt. This region was set apart from the main cultural centers of Egypt. The Israelites lived there in peace, minding their own business, raising livestock, and growing in population. When we catch up with them, they number about 2 million.

How is it possible that a people so numerous and described as extremely powerful, even more powerful than the…

2016 Jan 19 Critique of NCIS episode Deja Vu

Started by Diane and David Munson in General Discussions for Everyone Jan 19. 0 Replies

Tonight’s episode of NCIS was another trendy episode featuring the problem of international victimization of women through sex trafficking. It is reminiscent of the movie with Liam Neeson, “Taken,” which showed much more brutal aspects of these cases. Once again, Ellie Bishop is in the lead role with mere cameo appearances by Tim McGee and Tony DiNozzo. We viewers are asked to believe that as an NSA analyst Ellie worked on a former task force that investigated an international trafficking ring along with the FBI and others. To us, it would be more believable if Special Agents McGee, DiNozzo, or even Gibbs had worked the previous case. Oh well, it seems the writers aren’t going for believability these days. Some humor abounds despite the grim topic. Lighter scenes involve the Arctic cold hitting the Washington, D.C.…Continue

I have read this book and I really would like to share about it. It is about Lily Sanders. It is about her life growing up in Alaska. When you read about all the hardships her mother and siblings went through because of her father is just unbelievable. God was there all the time with them. I think is very inspiring sometimes sad to read but, also will make you think of your own blessings no matter how small. God is always there.Thank you everyone for letting me be a part of something I enjoy so much...READContinue

Christian Fiction Readers: I Need Your Input!

I am so honored to have been asked to speak at the Romance Writers of America's KYOWA Writers' Dogwood Conference in Greenbo, Kentucky, the first weekend in May. I was asked to speak on Christian fiction today and how it's not what it was a few years ago.I know the angle I will approach this speech as a writer. That is easy to me.But, I'll make a confession here:  I'm not a fiction reader - Christian or otherwise. I never have been. If I actually end up with enough leisure time to read, chances are good that I'll choose an old cookbook or Christian non-fiction book. So, I'd LOVE to hear from readers, and how you feel that Christian fiction has changed in the last few years. I'd love to incorporate that into my speech. Please leave a comment here. One commenter will win an ebook copy of all three of my Song of Suspense books, including the upcoming May 13th release  A Carol for Kent.…Continue

Should Your Spouse Be Your Best Friend?

Started by Mary Moore in General Discussions for Everyone. Last reply by Mary Moore Sep 23, 2014. 20 Replies

When my husband and I were dating, everything was going very well . . . I thought. We had been dating a little over a year when he asked me, "Who is your best friend?" I gave him a list of three women, all of whom he was very well acquainted with. There was an extended pause and he said to me, "I'm supposed to be your best friend."Wow! That hit me like a ton of bricks. I was 25 years old and nobody ever told me that was what to look for in a spouse. It was never included in the list of loving the Lord, strong, sense of humor, for better or worse (and looks, if that was your thing). I looked around at all of the married couples around me, and I noticed that those married at my age still considered their best friends from school, church, or neighborhoods their best friends. But when I looked at couples my parent's age, I saw a comfort, an easy camaraderie that indicated to me that they were friends. I cannot vouch for best friends, but that of a relationship built up over time that…Continue
