We facilitate this network where people feel safe, have fun, share hearts and embrace, Finding Hope through fellowship in reading groups.
Deep Shadows may very well be Ms. Chapman's best achievement yet! This dystopian novel is staggering, so realistic that when I laid the book aside, I fully expected conditions from the book to be actual! I was forced to look at the world around me differently, and expected to discover my…Continue

As I was preparing our annual "BC Year in Review" survey this morning, it occurred to me that some authors might be interested in asking our readers some questions. Large and diverse, our club not only appreciates the generosity of the authors who have made themselves available for our questions but our members also enjoy sharing their own opinions about Christian literature. If you would like to pose a question to our group, reply to this post and I'll include it in the survey that our group will fill out at our August 17th special event. After the results are compiled and tabulated, I'll post the results here later in August. Thanks,SandiContinue
It seems to me that a few authors took this in a different direction than was my original intent. This is a network of readers. Literally more than 80% of us are readers here....I think that this discussion has been good and after reading the last posts, I believe we have shifted from our original intent.Maybe we have said all we can say about this.I will say that the discussion started out with readers expressing their views about what they would or would not read (or buy) and turned into a reader bashing discussion about a few bad reviewers. Maybe that would best be a discussion for another forum?Besides I did get a few complaints from readers here about the posts lately so I have shut this one down.********************************************This morning I was looking at discussions on Michelle Sutton's Ning page "Edgy Christian Writers" and one discussion was about cussing in a Christian book. Some were saying it hurt "the reality" of a character like a gang member, if they didn't…Continue
I am the Book Club coordinator for a large church in Roanoke, VA. Our club started 4 years ago meeting monthly in two discussion groups. The Tuesday group meets 11:30am-1:00pm at the church and the Saturday group meets 9:30am-11:00am at a Panera Bread. In addition to the club members, many others read from our book list even if they cannot attend a discussion group. Some of these readers choose to meet in smaller groups or individually with a club member to share their thoughts about a book. Because there are limited spaces for books on the schedule, each selection must meet the following criteria: first and foremost a chosen book must honor God, secondly, it must be a well written great story offering potential discussion topics. Being aware that the books I choose for the club will be spending the time and money of our readers, only the best of the best make the final book list. I intentionally seek variety in genres, authors, geographic locations, time periods, and topics. I…Continue
So delighted! At last, my devotional, Getting Out of Bed in the Morning: Reflections of Comfort in Heartache, is out! This book has opened many doors for me to meet with others who are in pain due to the many sorrows experienced in life. I am speaking on the book's themes (forgiveness, anguish, anger, praise) on radio shows and at groups around my state and the country. I wrote this devotional from my own anguish after losing my four-year-old son Daniel to cancer. I feel many Christians tend to brush over the impact loss has on our lives. Acknowledging a person's pain is key in order to be able to walk with him/her in their sorrow. How do you help those you know who are suffering now with loss (financial, health, death of a loved one, broken relationships) in their lives? What have you found to be effective when you have been the one having a tough time getting out of bed in the morning?Continue

So, we are starting a book club and were deciding on books. We all agreed we did not want any doctrinal books, but then the one lady said she did not want any Christian fiction either. i did pick out a couple that are not the typical "Christian fiction" types..... and at least one is on the list. Have you run into this often? People tend to think of christian fiction as either badly written books, not controversial enough, or too preachy....What things do you do to combat that? Continue
We are starting a book club and will begin with Kim Vogel Sawyer's Fields of Grace. We are going to read all genre's of Christian Fiction. We'll meet monthly and have authors via phone for some books. Can you tell me what books you've read that you'd reccommend for our group? Any books you'd avoid? lol The purpose of our group is several fold--as an outreach to those who are unchurched but like to read to introduce them to the Christian life as lived out by characters so they might come to know Jesus, for women who might be new to their faith and intimidated by a Bible study to open discussion on how you live out your faithand apply Scripture to real life circumstance, to open discussion of those who are mature in faith about hard subjects like grief, forgiveness, sin, etc. Thanks for all your help and suggestions! Blessings, Kim Continue

As a reader, I have always wondered how writers organize their thoughts, how they keep the plot going, and how they write on a subject they know little about. Do they have a set time of day to write? what happens when a writer loses in inspiration? To all the writers, published or not, could you reveal how you do it???Continue
Since I was diagnosed with serious lupus and other chronic illnesses, my faith has blossomed! I was always prayerful, attended church, and read Scripture. But, oh, my! the awesomeness that is Our Lord truly has led me on an amazing journey with and in spite of significant health challenges. I've been blessed to write books (including, "Peace in the Storm: Meditations on Chronic Pain & Illness," Random House/Image), a blog, articles - even songs! - and now would be delighted to open up a discussion with the TBCN community. Let's witness to God's wonderful work even when pain is difficult or illness is pressing. Let's talk about faith, favorite Bible verses, ways in which God has brought abiding peace in our illness- and pain-wracked lives, even when the world seems to be falling apart. So you can get to…Continue
